History[]
The South Jordan Fire Department was established in 1977. The former Fire Chief was Burt Bauk, then in 1985 Chief Ted Sandstrom. In 1992 Gary Whatcott became the Fire Chief, he opened the much needed new headquarters station 35 (now St-61) in 1993. During the mid to late 90's, South Jordan FD held a partnership with West Jordan FD to house 2 Firefighters and staff an ambulance at WJFD's Station 27 (now St-54). Around this time, South Jordan FD also contracted with Salt Lake County FD to provide Paramedics to run at Station 35. In 2000 South Jordan FD moved from mostly part time ranks to a fully paid career department and stared its own Paramedic services, ending the need to partner with Salt Lake County FD. A few years later the partnership ended with West Jordan FD also.
In 2002 Chief Whatcott opened Station 62.
In 2016 Chief Andy Buttler opened Station 63
In 2021 Chief Chris Dawson opened Station 64
