The Century was a custom chassis built by American LaFrance. It was introduced in 1973 and the first truck delivered the following year. After production ceased in Elmira in 1985, ALF was resurrected in Virginia. The redesigned Century 2000 was launched in 1986 and remained in production until American LaFrance closed its doors again in 1994.

The Century Series had a standard cab design, except that behind the doors the cab widened out giving more room in the jump seat.
