In 1999, the surrounding Township of Dungannon was amalgamated with Bancroft, bringing the two stations of the Dungannon Township Fire Department into an expanded Town of Bancroft.

In 2013, Bancroft and the Municipality of Hastings Highlands agreed to a joint fire administration under a full-time chief. The new entity is known as North Hastings Fire Service.
